Did you know that you can place a hold or transfer an item from one our 17 branches. All you need is a valid Albuquerque/Bernalillo County Library card and the barcode number located on the back of your card.

tipHolds cannot be placed on music CDs, DVDs, or VHS tapes through the catalog. However,if the status of the this type of item is LOOK ON SHELF, you can call that library and place a Telephone Hold. Your hold can be picked up at the owning library or transferred to another library in our system.

1. Place an item on hold
  1. Search for the item or topic you need.
  2. If more than one format exists, select the one you want. Click PLACE A HOLD.
  3. Enter your name and barcode number if you have not already logged in.
  4. Select a PICKUP LOCATION and click GO.
  5. If your request was successful, a message will appear confirming what you requested and the pickup location. You will be notified when the item arrives at the pickup location.

tipNotices are sent via email, telephone or by mail. To change how you receive library notices, go to MY ACCOUNT and click &MODIFY PERSONAL INFORMATION. Remember to LOG OUT.


2. Place multiple holds and stay logged into your account:
  1. Log into My Account.
  2. Once logged in, use the search bar at the top of the screen.
  3. Locate the title you want. If there is more than one format you may:
    • click SAVE TO VIEW LATER button (right side of title)
    • or select the format you want and click the SAVE button on the top tool bar
    Notice that in both cases the wording changes to "Remove from Book Cart."
  4. Continue searching. It is not necessary to return to your account since you are now logged in. Each time you locate an item you want, click the SAVE button or .
  5. When you have located all the items you want for this session, click VIEW SAVED button.
  6. Select option 2: PLACE A HOLD.
  7. Select a PICKUP LOCATION.
  8. Review what you have saved and click either HOLD ALL or check off the items you want and click HOLD SELECTED.
  9. "Processing Batch Request" window will open showing if your requests were successful. Click Done.
  10. Click CLEAR SAVED RECORDS. At this point you are still logged in and can:
    • Continue searching
    • Return to your account
    • Logout

3. Track your hold: What does the status message mean?
  1. Log in to MY ACCOUNT.
  2. Click VIEW HOLDS.
  3. Check message in the status column:
  • # of # holds: indicates that no copies are available and you are # of # on the list for that item.
  • LOOK ON SHELF: indicates an item is on the shelf at that location.
  • ON HOLDSHELF: indicates an item is on a hold shelf for a someoneit may not be you.
  • AVAILABLE: indicates an item is available to fill a hold. It does not mean item is ready for pickup.
  • IN TRANSIT: indicates that an item is en route from the owning library to the pickup location.
  • READY FOR PICKUP: indicates item is ready to be picked up and checked out. If you have received a message, then it is ready for you to pickup.
